You’re a competent surfer, you catch plenty of waves but you think the foundation of your surfing technique could be improved.
You see other surfers bottom turning with control and laying down some nice turns. You’d like to do that too. And on those days when the waves are hollow and pumping, you want to be able to make the most of them – not blow it on those steep drops!
This Raglan surf camp is designed to be an intensive 2 days where you will be coached in a holistic manner that combines theory, land-based training techniques, video coaching and tips on mindset.
I’ve honed in on a few of the most common problems I see with intermediate or ‘average’ surfers, and by attending this camp you will come away with the skills and confidence to move steadily in the direction of your surfing goals. I hope you’ll feel a sense of possibility that you can learn some moves….that one day you will get barrelled, or be ready to surf those Indonesian waves you see in the mags!
Raglan Surf Camp Details
Where: You probably know plenty about Raglan already. It’s 2 hours drive from Auckland. We will surf wherever the conditions are most suitable each day, on the beach breaks or the points.
What’s Involved: On both days we’ll meet at the base (a hired beach house) early each morning and decide where to go for our first filmed surf session. After the surf we will return to the house to review footage and go through an in-depth theory or land-based training session. We’ll then suss out the best spot for our second filmed surf session.
The main topics will be:
- fine tuning the pop-up for all types of waves
- instilling the correct stance that enhances control, speed and turning ability
- learning training exercises you can do at home to support the above
- wave reading and positioning tips to improve the wave-count and success-rate
- speed generation and turning techniques (will include a surf style skateboard session)
- a final summary on mindset, confidence and the learning process
- plus, happy to go through any questions you have
The schedule will be flexible and based on weather and tides. I will confirm the exact start time with you before the course begins. You will need to bring your own board and wetsuit and anything else you’d usually take on a surf mission. Clothes you can do some exercises in, and shoes for skating are also a good idea.
Who is this Surf Camp for: This camp is designed for what I call level 4 surfers. If you’re a Level 3 surfer you can join too as long as you are confident surfing rocky point breaks and have no problems with getting waves amongst a crowd. The camp is being held on week days to avoid crowds as much as possible, but you will still need to be able to handle yourself well (for both your own enjoyment and that of the other surfers out there) Check your level here
There will be a maximum of 6 people to ensure quality coaching.
